How to make stress your friend:
Stress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others. In the Complete study course:
Some of the effective ways to manage stress are meditation, breathing exercises, prayer, movement and Mind-work. These are all about awareness – of emotion, behaviour, body and thoughts in my circumstances. It presupposes that I be here, now and that I keep my attention here. Furthermore that I know that where I am, is the right place for me and that I will always be enough for this moment.
I openly write down the stressful thoughts and question them. I am aware of the judgements and I have stopped them (pinned them down), which lead me to the truth. I ask a few questions, wait and receive the answers. By doing this I see who I am by thinking who others are and my thoughts are reflected by everything outside (I also take the advice myself, that which I give others). The questioning of thoughts opens up my mind (it shows me where I am stuck – in my relationship with others as well as with myself). It holds the possibility of relaxation (of body and mind) and gives room for creativity in my thinking and in my actions.
